STRIKE UP THE GONG
Finally, this horror flick produced by Grand Brilliance Sdn Bhd will be unleashed to movie-goers. Gong – which was entirely shot in Indonesia – features rising star Fasha Sandha, Jehan Miskin, Sharifah Sofia and singer Elyana.
The story focuses on an ancient gong which is one of the exhibits in the Cultural Museum in Yogyakarta. Mira (Fasha), a quiet Malaysian girl and her college mates – Trisha (Sharifah Sofia), Ika (Elyana), Rozan (Jehan) and Didi (Faizal) – fly to Yogyakarta for a study trip.
There, they stay in a colonial bungalow called Sanggar Bagong. Sanggar was an artist who took his life in the bungalow.
Things start to go helter-skelter when Trisha steals the gong and brings it to the bungalow. From that moment, the five friends begin to encounter supernatural things in the bungalow. And when a mysterious Javanese woman appears at the bungalow, the five realise that their life are in danger ...
Gong was shot early last year at a budget of RM1.8 million but it faced many technical obstacles. In the end, it was only completed early this year.
Upon completion, however, the producer had decided not to release Gong too soon after Pontianak Harum Sundal Malam 2 (PHSM2), and opted for a late year release.
It was learnt that the producer did not want movie-goers to compare Gong with PHSM2. It was also learnt that unlike PHSM2, the ghost in Gong is not scary!
Gong is scheduled for a late August release, and is Grand Brilliance’s first horror flick. It is also the company’s third film to be released this year after the box office hit Buli Balik and the disappointing Senario Pemburu Emas Yamashita.
To help promote the film, Yazer of Akademi Fantasia 3 has been roped in to sing the theme song entitled Cinta Zaman Berzaman, composed by music maestro M Nasir. The irama nusantara track and its music video will be aired soon.
